How to show up in ChatGPT and Google's AI answers
Being mentioned by an AI assistant isn't luck. Here are the concrete, unglamorous things that make ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI put your agency forward.
We've written about how vendors increasingly ask AI, not Google, which agent they should use. The obvious next question is: how do you actually become the agent it names? The good news is that it isn't a dark art. It comes down to a handful of things you can genuinely influence, and most of your rivals aren't doing them.
Be consistent everywhere
AI cross-checks your name, address and phone number across your website, Google, the directories and the portals. Inconsistencies, an old address here, a different phone number there, make it uncertain about who you are, and uncertain means unmentioned. The single least glamorous, most valuable job is to make those details identical everywhere they appear.
Give it clean facts to read
Machines quote what they can parse confidently. Structured data, clear headings and plain descriptions of who you are and where you work all make your site easy to read. The easier you are to understand, the more happily an assistant will put your name forward rather than hedge.
Earn genuine reviews
AI leans heavily on reputation. A steady stream of real reviews on Google and the portals does more than almost anything else to make an assistant recommend you, because it is exactly the signal a cautious human would look for too. Build a simple habit of asking every happy client, every time.
Publish useful, local content
This is where area guides, market updates and honest answers to movers' questions earn their keep. It is the material AI draws on to describe you as the genuine local expert. Thin, generic posts do nothing here; specific, genuinely helpful ones do the heavy lifting.
AI recommends the agent who has already answered the question, clearly, somewhere it can read.
Answer the actual questions
Picture what a seller types into ChatGPT: "best estate agent in my town", "how do I choose an agent", "what should I ask at a valuation". Make sure your site genuinely answers those, in plain language. Clear, honest, question-and-answer content, marked up properly, is some of the most quotable material you can publish.
Check what it says now
Finally, ask the big tools about your area today and see whether and how you appear. That is your baseline. From there it's a matter of tidying the gaps, deliberately, one at a time.
None of this is a trick, and that is precisely the point: the same honest, well-built foundations that please Google please AI too. Do them on purpose and you move from invisible to quotable. It's the heart of our SEO & AI Search work, and a free site review will show you where you stand right now.
Our articles are drafted with the help of AI tools that we regularly use. Each one is measured, edited and approved by real people who stand by it.
You can now opt out of Google's AI answers. Should you?
The setting went live for every website in the world on 31 August, and Britain got it first because of a competition regulator. What it does, the three things it does not do, and why we would leave it alone.
